Marty Buchheim James Crawford Carl Dvorak

Marty is Director of the Data Science and Analytics Lab (DSAL) at American Family Insurance. DSAL is charged with melding new and existing sources of data with machine learning and other advanced computational capabilities to discover new, fundamental relationships or insights and, further, to leverage these new insights to drive innovation. Marty has a PhD in Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing from UW-Madison, an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Biology from Wartburg College.

James has spent more than six years in the financial services industry, with Wachovia Securities, UBS Investment Bank, TRIAD Capital Management and the Charterhouse Group. Most recently, James worked for Return Path, a venture capital-backed SaaS company based in New York City. While at Return Path, James worked in various roles within Corporate Development and Business Development. James has a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University.

Carl Dvorak is EVP at Epic, and is responsible for Epic’s research and development areas as well as many executive and strategic activities of the company. Epic is one of the nation’s largest privately owned vendors of healthcare information systems. Dvorak has been with Epic since 1987. He led development of EpicCare, the industry’s first successful EMR; guided Epic’s successful entry into the inpatient clinical system arena, and supervised numerous major installations. Outside of Epic, Dvorak served on HL7’s Advisory Committee and currently serves on the executive committee of the HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association, an organization he helped found.
